Human Trafficking

(1) a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age; or (2) the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery.

Purple W.I.N.G.S. (PWs) is deeply committed to the modern-day fight against human trafficking, with an emphasis on all forms of commercial sexual exploitation innately linked to sexual trafficking.

We are a survivor led program organization, PWs is uniquely qualified to provide customized training and technical assistance on the commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and domestic trafficking of children and youth. Organizations and institutions that want to provide their staff with the knowledge and tools needed to understand these issues learn also how to provide empathetic, consistent support and viable opportunities that victims need for positive change in their lives.

Prevention

The goal of the Angel program is to provide education, training, and informational materials to the young women that are being mentored to increase their awareness and understanding of: sexual abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. The ultimate goal is to empower the participants in an effort for them to reclaim their lives so they will not become victimized again.

Rescue

PWs has a 24 hour answering service for the victims in the community to access information and to receive help when in crisis. Within 72 hours of a child being identified as a victim each child is provided a needs and service assessment. In an effort to get an identified victim to safety PWs uses every effort to locate a victim’s family member for safe placement. However, if this is not available we work with key community partners to provide emergency shelter. Once shelter has been established, the young ladies are immediately placed on a plan to start restoration.

Restore

PWs provides one-on-one intense mentoring to each victim in the form of basic skills training, psycho-social rehabilitation, case management, and life coaching. In addition, PW’s provides job skills training, dress for success program, interview preparedness classes, education assistance, leadership and career development.

Our Founder, Toshia Shaw as seen here in the opening and closing of this trailer was able to lend her voice in this awe inspiring piece of journalism. She had an interview with Jay and Michelle Brock of Hope for the Sold. Together this dynamic duo traveled to 10 countries shooting this documentary on sex trafficking, and they’re writing a book as well. Please share with all of your friends, and visit the site, Hope for the Sold. We are thankful to Michelle and Jay Brock who shed light on this all too important issue.
